Privacy notice – Mars Colony alpha
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Who we are. Mars Colony (marscolony.app) is run by Think X Intelligent Systems LTD, Currygrane, Ballinalee, Co. Longford, N39 AE76, Ireland (CRO 706889). Contact: hello@marscolony.app.
Alpha welcome and confirmation. When you request alpha access, we immediately send a welcome email with a game introduction, attached PDF starter guide and a confirmation link. Your participation remains pending until you confirm it. We store hashes of the confirmation and cancellation tokens, the confirmation expiry and last welcome-send time. Confirmation links expire after seven days and can be used once. Duplicate requests are limited to one welcome email per address per hour. We send ongoing alpha messages only to confirmed, active participants; optional news also requires your separate opt-in. The email cancellation link stops both alpha and optional news messages. You can also contact hello@marscolony.app for deletion. Existing signups are not automatically confirmed or emailed by this change.
What we collect. Your email address, whether you opted in to news, the time you signed up, the page you signed up on, and a one-way, salted hash of your IP address (kept as a record of your consent; the IP address itself is not stored).
Why and on what basis. To send you alpha access and alpha messages, and, only if you ticked the box, occasional news. Our legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time.
Who sees it. Only us. It's stored on our server in Dublin (Amazon Web Services, EU). We never sell your data.
How long we keep it. Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, and no longer than 12 months after the alpha ends unless you agree to stay on the list.
Your rights. You can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, or object, by emailing hello@marscolony.app. We'll reply within one month. You can also complain to the Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
Age. The alpha is for people aged 16 and over.

Game accounts and shared colony saves
In supporting game builds, you create an account with an email address, password and chosen player name. We store your email and name, a salted password hash, account and player identities, hashed device session tokens, verification and password-reset records, and private saved colony data. Your password is not saved by the game. Device sessions remain valid while used and expire after 180 days of inactivity; resetting your password revokes existing sessions.
The same account restores your current colony on Windows, iOS and Android. While playing and awake, the game checks and saves centrally every minute, and checks again immediately on waking. Sleeping apps do not start uploads. Offline progress remains on the device; conflicting timelines require a choice before a stale device can replace central progress. We retain one current central save and five previous revisions. Data is stored privately outside the public website on our existing hosting. These records provide the account and game-continuity features you request; they do not subscribe you to marketing.
Verification and password-recovery emails are sent using our hosting mail service. Verification links expire after 24 hours; reset links after 30 minutes. Account and save records remain until you ask us to delete them; no automatic account-deletion schedule has been implemented. For access, correction, export or deletion, email hello@marscolony.app. Public leaderboard sharing is optional and displays your chosen name and colony totals, never your email, password or session token. Account sessions also recover your player invitation identity across devices.
Optional public leaderboards
When you choose Join & publish colony in a supporting game build, your public player name, people and robot totals, and last report time appear on the top 100 pages. Use an alias rather than private information. We use your existing device player key to authenticate updates; keys are not shown publicly. One latest colony report is stored per player, not a history of your saves. Reports are hidden after 30 days without an update and expired reports are deleted on the next publishing or removal request. Stop sharing & remove my entry deletes your public report when the game connects successfully. Player names and counts are self-reported, not verified identities or scores.
